Here are the most common questions about our system.

How is MindMe different from other text messaging platforms?

All mobile marketing platforms are not created equal. MindMe combines the best of SMS marketing and mobile web landing pages to create an unparalleled marketing solution. Text messaging has the power to instantly connect you with your audience, but text messages are limited by themselves. When you combine SMS with rich, dynamic mobile web content, you can engage an audience like never before. Unlike other systems that are confusing or complicated, MindMe was designed to be intuitive and easy to use. You’ll be up and running in minutes.

Can I be notified when someone subscribes?

Yes. When a person opts-in via SMS by texting a Keyword or they complete a Lead Capture form on a mobile web page, you can be notified instantly by SMS or email.

What does SMS and MMS mean?

SMS stands for Short Message Service. It is a text message without an image or video. MMS stands for Multimedia Message Service and includes an image, video or audio file. MindMe does not support MMS. Instead we offer mobile web landing pages which offer far more options than a simple image, audio or video file. See Mobile Web Page for more information on mobile web options.

How do I add subscribers?

There are multiple ways of adding subscribers to MindMe. They include a Keyword, Web Form, List Import or Lead Form on a mobile web page. We recommend using a Keyword, since there is no question that the contact opted in to receive future text-based communication from you.

How long does it take for a text message to be delivered?

Text messages on a Keyword opt-in are received and processed by MindMe nearly instantaneously. A text greeting reply or outbound campaign is usually delivered within 5-10 seconds, but this can be affected by several factors. It can depend on the wireless carrier, the location of the recipient and the quantity of messages processed by MindMe at any given time. If a recipient’s phone is turned off or outside the coverage area, a carrier will attempt to deliver your message for up to 72 hours.

What is a credit?

MindMe uses credits as a virtual SMS currency. A plan includes a specific number of credits in a given period – usually monthly. Every time your plan renews you are awarded a new set of credits. Every message that MindMe receives or sends deducts 1 message credit (2 for messages over 160 characters).

How do I know how many credits I need?

The number of credits required depends on how many messages you plan on sending each month, the length of those messages and how many subscribers you have. For example, if you have 1,000 subscribers and you want to send them a typical message 4 times per month, you need a plan with 4,000 credits. If you capture leads via keywords or setup SMS notifications on new keyword or mobile web forms, you will need additional credits.

Are there any extra fees?

Every customer is on a subscription plan. Most plans renew monthly on the day you first sign up. Plans that include SMS (there are plans for mobile web only), includes a fixed number of credits each month. There are no additional monthly fees, but you can incur a small usage fee to add more credits to your account if your balance goes negative.

Can I use one MindMe account for different businesses?

Yes! Since each Keyword and Campaign offer a different “From” names, you can create Keyword1 for Brand A and Keyword2 for Brand B. When people opt-in to each Keyword, they are automatically added to separate lists. When you send a new Campaign to each list, you can easily choose different “From” names for each Campaign.

What is a Hashkey?

MindMe lets you track results for every Keyword created. But what happens when you want to track specific marketing campaigns. Say you mail multiple postcards or have flyers in various local businesses and you want to track which version or location is more effective? You need a different Keyword for each piece. This can get expensive as other companies charge up to $25 per Keyword. MindMe has developed a unique and cost effective solution. When you create a Keyword, we allow you to add Hashkeys under that Keyword. If your Keyword is Fish, your Hashkey might be Fish#1, Fish#2, Fish#3, etc. or Fish#0216 to designate the date of February 2016. It’s simple to setup and we typically give you up to 5 Hashkeys for every Keyword in your plan. If your plan selected has 3 Keywords available, you can create 5 Hashkeys for every Keyword or 15 Hashkeys for 1 Keyword. Some plans offer unlimited Hashkeys. A Hashkey functions just like a Keyword. It has a Greeting, offers email and SMS Notifications on opt-in and can initiate an Autoresponder series.

What is a Long Code?

A long code is a full phone number (10 digits in the US and Canada). It can be used for both SMS and phone communication and is typically used in more peer to peer communication. There are daily limitations on the number of messages and what types of messages can be sent via Long Code. But they can be ideal for more personal, chat-based communication.

The best way for a subscriber to opt-out is for them to reply STOP from their mobile device. This will automatically stop any future communication. You can also search for the contact and delete them directly from the system.

Is it easy to create a mobile web page and how can I use them?

MindMe offers an easy-to-use mobile page builder integrated with our platform. Choose a theme for your mobile page and add elements like videos, images, lead capture forms, coupons, titles & paragraphs, feedback forms, click-to-call buttons, maps and more. Mobile pages can be effortlessly sent as part of a text message campaign or connected to an email campaign, embedded on a website, posted on social media or connected to an online pay-per-click ad.

What does opt-in mean?

Opt-in refers to consent. When a person opts-in to your marketing campaign, they are agreeing to receive future communication from you. People can opt-in in a variety of ways, but the best way to opt-in is by texting a “Keyword” to a special MindMe number. You can also upload a list of existing contacts who have already opted in to receive SMS communication. MindMe does not allow unsolicited SMS campaigns.

Is text marketing more effective than email marketing?

Research shows that texting can be as much as 20X more effective than sending an email. Less than 1 in 4 emails are ever opened, much less read, while about 95% of texts are read within 15 minutes. A good click-through-rate (CTR) in an email is 5-10% while a text campaign can achieve a CTR of 50%. It connects you with your audience in ways that email cannot match. It’s the perfect way to communicate an urgent offer or deliver an emergency notification. It’s an ideal way to capture new leads in a variety of situations – radio, TV, billboards, digital displays, trade shows, concerts, sporting events, restaurants and retail environments.

What can I do to get more subscribers or promote my business?

MindMe works perfectly with your existing marketing. Create a Keyword or Mobile Page and add to a mailer, business card, flyer, poster, window sign, radio/TV ad, website, presentation, blog, social post or online ad campaign (PPC). By offering an easy and targeted way for a prospective customer to learn more about you and even sign up for an exclusive bonus offer, you’ll capture highly engaged leads. And with instant notifications and SMS drip campaigns you’ll turn those lead into customers.

How many characters may I include in a text message?

A single SMS message is generally limited to 160 characters. This includes numbers, spaces, symbols and punctuation. MindMe allows you a maximum of 320 characters in a single message, but it will cost 2 message credits if you are over 160 characters.

What happens if I do not use all of my credits in a given month?

Great news! Unlike most competitors, every MindMe plan comes with rollover. Similar to some wireless plans, your credits do not expire if you fail to use them in a given month. For most plans, unused credits will last 60 days.

What happens if my credit balance goes negative?

Most plans will allow you to use more credits than you have in an emergency. The limit can vary depending on your plan, but is typically a negative balance of 100 credits. If your account goes negative, MindMe will automatically charge your account in minimum blocks of 100 credits at a cost of 5.9 cents per credit (large plans can have larger blocks). Trial account usage is limited to the credits available and cannot go negative.

What is a Keyword?

A keyword is a unique combination of characters (letters, numbers or symbols) that is connected to a special mobile Short Code or Long Code number. When someone texts a Keyword to that number, the person has “opted in” to receive future communication. They receive an immediate text response or greeting, their mobile number is added to a MindMe Keyword specific list and you can receive a text or email notification. Your greeting can include a link to a website, a link to an image hosted on our system or a link to a mobile page. They can also be added to an SMS drip campaign (or auto-responder) to receive automatic messages over time.

Why would I need more than one keyword?

If you’re running multiple campaigns targeting different groups of people or using different marketing channels it can be critical to know which campaigns are performing better. Assigning a different keyword to each inbound lead option – flyer vs. postcard vs. social – can offer insight into where to invest your marketing dollars. You can also use Hashkeys to understand lead flow.

What is a Short Code?

A short code is a special number used exclusively for text message communication. It is usually 5 or 6 digits. It can be used to capture inbound messages via a keyword – Text Coupon to 26786 where the number is the Short Code in this example – or used to deliver text messages in an outbound campaign. It is designed to handle large amounts of messaging traffic and can be used for a variety of communication types: marketing, notifications, alerts, appointment reminders, information, etc.

Am I locked into a contract?

MindMe plans are month-to-month. You can upgrade, downgrade or cancel at any time. If you upgrade your plan, the increased pricing and features start immediately. If you downgrade a plan, your reduced pricing and features begin at your next billing date.

Can I add more numbers to an Imported List?

Yes. You can easily add more subscribers to any Imported List by selecting that list in the Contacts & Lists area and choosing “Add More Numbers”. Duplicate numbers will not be imported and any contacts who have opted out in the past by replying STOP to a previous message will still be opted out. Make sure anyone you import has specifically opted in to receive SMS communication. If not, ask them to opt-in via a Keyword or another method.

Are keywords case sensitive?

No. Keywords can be any combination of upper or lower case letters and can include numbers as well.
